How to use Overtime & Paycheck Pro
A step‑by‑step walkthrough with examples and pro tips.
1) Pick your state
Use the state selector on the home page or open the States list. The calculator will show a small state badge so you know which page you’re on.
2) Enter your hourly rate & regular hours
Start with what’s on your paystub: base hourly rate and regular hours worked during the period.
3) Add overtime (1.5×) and double‑time (2.0×)
Enter any OT and DT hours. The calculator will apply multipliers to estimate gross. If your employer uses special rules, mirror those when entering hours.
4) Choose paycheck frequency
Weekly, biweekly, twice‑monthly, or monthly. This affects per‑check withholding but not your annual totals.
5) Tune withholding (Fed % & State %)
Match your last paystub’s withholding by dividing the withholding amount by the gross and entering those percentages. Nudge up/down until your net aligns.
6) Check your results & sanity‑check
- Does OT change your gross as expected?
- Does your net roughly match your most recent check?
- If not, re‑check pay frequency and the Fed/State %.
This is general guidance, not legal or tax advice.
- Choose pay type: hourly or salary (non‑exempt).
- Add OT hours: 1.5× and 2.0× as needed. Use the CA assistant if you work in California.
- Deductions: 401(k)/pre‑tax, rough federal/state %, optional FICA.
- Export: print/PDF or CSV for records.
Tips
- For more accuracy, match your actual paystub’s tax %.
- Bonus taxation can vary; we treat it as regular income for a simple estimate.
- Local city/county taxes aren’t modeled here—adjust state % to compensate.
